TERM 2 2014 MUSIC


We are learning to ...
- play the chime bars to go up and down the scale 
- explore the differences between high and low sounds and soft and loud sounds 
- sing songs in time with the music. 
We know when we have done this when...

  • we can play up the scale, and down the scale in time to the song
  • we can keep in time with the music
  • we can say whether the sounds are high or low
  • we can play loudly or softly
  • we can sing in time with the music

A Place that is important to me in Christchurch..
The airport because my dad works there. And also
the police station where my great, great, grandad used to work.





Term 2 Reading 2014


I am learning to talk about the characters, setting and plot of the stories I read with my group.
I am also learning to read a little faster so that it sounds like talking.


Teacher: What is one thing that you like about reading?

  • plan a drawing using the elements of line, tone, texture, colour, form, shape, and space
  • use the techniques of sketching, using the correct brush strokes, colour mixing, texturing, and applying a black border.
  • communicate and interpret my idea of a kowhaiwhai pattern.

Student comment: I liked doing the korus because I practised them at home and they look cool.

We are learning to write a recount
We know when we have done this when we have…
·       An introduction telling who, what and where

·       Sentences starting in different ways
·       Describing words to create a picture in the mind of the reader

Term 1 2014 Written Language

WALT write a timed recount about a time when we did something special with our whanau or family.
Write about:
·      when and where you did something special
·      who was with you
·      what you did (think about the order you did things)
·      how you felt and why you felt this way.

The Beach

Once I went to the beach with my mum and friends. The beach was sparkly like crystals. Me and my friends and mum all went to a restaurant.

Next steps
You need to add more details to make it clear exactly where you went and what you did.

Where was the beach? Who were your friends? What did you do at the beach?

2014 Term 1 Art Attack

WALT: use different painting techniques to paint a picture of a Lizard or Geko.

We will know we can do this when:
·    we can mix colours
·    use different colours to emphasise specific features/details
·    use different brush stroke techniques to create different effects

·    we can paint a background

We can do this when we can:
Correctly say one or more things about a display of data on a pictogram.
E.g " I notice the most popular eye colour in Room 22 is blue".

I notice most peoples favourite fruit is banana's.

Writing Term 2

We read a book called 'The Cat in the Hat' by Dr Seuss. We used our Green Thinking Hat to write a creative story about what would happen if Thing 1 & Thing 2 (characters from the book) came to our house.

We are learning to:
Use the Green Thinking Hat (creativity) to write a story.

We can do this when we can: 
-Write a story that keeps the reader interested.
-Write in detail.
-Use interesting words.
-Publish our work carefully.

If thing one and thing two came to my house they would break my mum's jar of beans and my house and have a disco and my dad's ukulele and my guitar.
